Joy Chakraborthy quits ZEEL

Joy Chakraborthy, Executive Director, Revenue & Niche Channels, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has resigned from the company. Details on Chakraborthy’s destination next were unclear at the time of filing the report, but sources indicated that he might be headed to lead a news television company.

Confirming the news of Chakraborthy’s exit to exchange4media, Punit Goenka, MD & CEO, ZEEL, said, “I have accepted Joy’s resignation with a heavy heart. He did lead a strong team at ZEEL that will continue to be part of our family.”

It is understood that ZEEL is in the process of indentifying a replacement from within the company to fill in Chakraborthy’s role and that there are at least three candidates from Chakraborthy’s team that are being considered for the job.

Chakraborthy had joined Zee in March 2005 to head the ad sales function of the company, which was then known as Zee Telefilms. Over the years, he was made the Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Niche Channels before taking on his current role of ED for Revenue and Niche Channels.

His present job responsibility involved maximisation of the company's value share through ensuring quality service to business constituents, strategising and initiating value innovations. In addition to Media Sales, he was also the business unit head of niche channels, which were the perception drivers for the Zee Network.

He brings 15 years of experience in strategic media sales across media organisations such as The Times of India Group and STAR India. His academic armory includes graduation from National Defense Academy, Masters in Marketing Management from NMIMS and, more recently, the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.
