Indiatimes appoints Sukanto Dey as Director, Telecom, for mobile-based services

Indiatimes has roped in Sukanto Dey as Director of Telecom. He will be handling the telecom and mobile business interface at Indiatimes. Dey joined the organisation in August-end. When contacted, Mahendra Swarup, CEO, Times Internet Ltd, confirmed the appointment.

Elaborating on his new assignment, Dey said, “I will be handling short codes, the 8888 service, WAP, GPRS, Indiatimes voice-based service, SMS-based services and the retail business.” He was earlier Chief of Marketing and Commercial Officer, Idea Cellular Ltd.

Another recent key appointment by Indiatimes is Sharada Prasad, who has joined the organisation as its Telecom Marketing Head. She reports to Dey. Prasad has moved from Reliance Infocomm, where she was Circle Marketing Team Head.

She will be handling the marketing of 8888 services, GPRS, Indiatimes voice service, SMS-based services and other new initiatives. “It is an exciting role,” she said, commenting on her job.

As reported earlier, Indiatimes is all set to broadband-enable its whole content and will be launching a host of multi-media products like video-blog, mobile-blog, broadband tabloid, video on demand, IPTV and an Indian version of the Wikipedia.

The leading portal is also realigning its operations to start a content factory called G5 to explore the market to provide a one-stop solution in all its specialised areas.
