Idea Cellular’s R K Amar Babu joins Lenovo India as MD

Lenovo India has appointment RK Amar Babu as Managing Director. Babu will be responsible for the overall business and growth for Lenovo in India. Prior to this, he was Chief Service Delivery Officer of Idea Cellular Ltd, and a member of Idea Cellular’s Executive Committee.

David Miller, President-Asia Pacific and Senior Vice-President, Lenovo Group, said, “We welcome Amar into Lenovo Asia Pacific’s senior management team. Babu said, “Lenovo is a growing force in the global PC market and has achieved impressive traction in India in a short span of time. I am delighted to be part of an organisation that takes pride in its multicultural heritage and customer-centric innovation.”

Babu comes in with more than 17 years of multi-functional experience and over 10 years of being in leadership roles. An Electrical and Electronics engineer, and a postgraduate holder in management, Babu has worked with companies like Citibank NA, HCL and Hewlett Packard Ltd. At HCL, he was Vice President-Operations for its information systems, where he was involved in all key strategic decisions, and responsible for consumer, channel and retail business. His achievements at HCL include leading the marketing and operations resulting in significant business growth, and re-establishing HCL’s Toshiba business.

He has also worked with Intel Technology (I) Pvt. Ltd as Managing Director-South Asia, in the sales and marketing division, and was in charge businesses in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. As an integral part of the regional management team, his mandate included driving business growth and strengthening Intel's brand and presence.
