HLL’s Jitu Mehta joins RPG Group as President of Spencer’s Retail

The RPG Group has appointed Jitu H Mehta as President of Spencer’s Retail and he will be reporting to Sumantra Banerjee, CEO of the RPG Retail Group. Mehta comes to RPG from Hindustan Lever Ltd, where he was Executive Director, Ice-Cream business.

Mehta will take up his new assignment with effect from July. His areas of responsibility will include operations of Spencer’s Hypermarkets, Spencer’s Supermarkets, as also Spencer’s Food Stores.

According to Sanjiv Goenka, Vice Chairman, RPG Enterprises, “RPG Retail is now poised to give shape to its integrated retail business with large, medium and small formats and move ahead its ambitious strategy for the various formats. RPG’s retail turnover is targeted to cross Rs 3000 crore by 2008. It is the group’s mission to leverage its position of competence and create a top ranking business enterprise in retail. No effort would be spared to achieve this mission.”

RPG has established itself as a strong player in the retail sector through successful formats such as FoodWorld, Health & Glow, MusicWorld and Spencer’s Hypermarkets (earlier known as Giants). FoodWorld and Health & Glow were set up as joint ventures with Dairy Farm International, while RPG pioneered the Hypermarket and MusicWorld formats on its own.
