Haier Telecom appoints Praveen Valecha as COO

Praveen Valecha has joined Haier Telecom (India) Ltd as COO from August 1, 2006. He will be reporting to Managing Director Arun Khanna.

Elaborating on his new role, Valecha said, “The main objective in this assignment is to put Haier Telecom among the top five recognisable brands in the mobile telephony space and then take the brand to the top three position. Apart from that, the focus will be on launching new technology phones and do sustainable and profitable business for Haier Telecom in India.”

Commenting on Valecha’s appointment, Khanna said, “We are delighted to welcome Praveen Valecha to the business. He is recognised as a veteran in the telecom industry and brings with him a wealth of experience and an impressive track record that is essential for the long-term growth and development of our company.”

Valecha added, “The competition in this segment is very high but we are sure with the kind of product line-up, our marketing efforts and with our distribution channels we will be able to really manage the business. The company aims to clock 10 percent market share in the next two years”

He has 14 years’ experience in the telecom industry and has to his credit the launch of various mobile phone brands in India. Prior to joining Haier Telecom, Valecha was with LG as the Product Group Head for two years, wherein he was responsible for spearheading a number of product launches in their mobile phone division.

He was also associated with companies like Philips, Samsung, Panasonic and HCL. Valecha spent most part of his career with LG, Philips and Samsung.

Haier Telecom, which is a relatively new entrant in the mobile telephony space, has a presence in the CDMA category so far and is set to enter the GSM category shortly.
