Gurdip Bhangoo appointed Head of Programming for Sony Entertainment Television

Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd has announced the appointment of Gurdip Bhangoo as Head of Programming for its flagship GEC Sony Entertainment Television. Bhangoo will be reporting to Albert Almeida, Executive Vice President & Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television. He comes on board from October 1, 2008.

At Sony, Bhangoo will be responsible for the programming and creative development of the channel content and will work closely with the channel’s team to further strengthen the channel’s position.

Commenting on Bhangoo’s appointment, Kunal Dasgupta, CEO, Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd, said, “In today’s global village, where great ideas travel across borders, Gurdip is well poised to exploit this phenomenon and is a great addition to our already strong creative team in India. He brings with him a unique combination of international TV experience, coupled with a good understanding of programming to the South Asian community. He has proven creative leadership and in his last position, was the only Asian to occupy such a senior position at the BBC UK, leading a team of senior talent. He has been responsible for creating and commissioning content for the Asian Programming Unit of the BBC.”

NP Singh, COO, Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd, said, “It is a very interesting time for the television industry in India, and in Gurdip we have found a creative leader who has a super blend of great international experience and a deep understanding of the television business. He will give our creative output further impetus and keep us ahead of the curve. Gurdip will also help us consolidate our brand position – fresh entertainment for today’s families.”

On his new role, Bhangoo said, “The SET role is particularly interesting for me because it gives me a challenging opportunity to generate big impact entertainment programming for the Indian market, a country that I have a strong connect with thanks to my roots and my experience at the BBC. Prior to this appointment, Bhangoo was associated with the BBC’s Asian Programming Unit as Executive Producer & Head. He has been with the BBC for the last 15 years. During this time he was responsible for overseeing the development of ideas, content production and onscreen talent for the Asian Programming unit across the BBC.

In recent times, he has created and executive produced a range of prime-time output in genres ranging from drama, documentary, travelogue, history, popular culture and food with titles like: ‘The Day India Burned: Partition’; ‘The Lost World of The Raj’; ‘Indian Food Made Easy’; ‘Saira Khan’s Pakistan Adventure’; and ‘Mumbai Uncovered’.
