Gopal Vittal heads back to Bharti Airtel

Gopal Vittal, who had recently moved on from Hindustan Unilever, is headed back to Bharti Airtel as Group Director – Special Projects. He will be responsible for “Airtel's international strategy and to build world class data business”. Vittal’s new role begins from April 3, 2012.

While Gopal Vittal did not respond to exchange4media’s queries on the development, in a press statement, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director Bharti Airtel, said, “We are delighted to have Gopal back at Airtel. Given our global aspirations and a fast evolving mobile telephony landscape led by explosive growth of data services, we are preparing a strong platform for the next phase of our growth.”

Vittal’s previous stint with Airtel was from 2006 to 2008 as Director – Marketing.

In 2008, he had quit Airtel to join Hindustan Unilever, a company that he had worked in an earlier avatar as well. Vittal’s second stint with Unilever began in 2008, when he had rejoined the corporate major as the Executive Director, Home & Personal Care. Vittal has worked both in India and Asia for Unilever for over 18 years.

Bharti Airtel is a global mobile phone operator with presence in 19 countries across Asia and Africa.
