Exclusive: BCCL appoints Rahul Kansal to new position of CMO

Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL) has created a new position of Chief Marketing Officer and appointed Rahul Kansal, Brand Director, The Times of India, to the position. He will continue to report to Ravi Dhariwal, CEO Publishing. The brand heads of TOI, ET, and Mirror would report to Kansal.

The appointment is effective June 30, 2008, according to a circular issued by Vineet Jain, Managing Director.

In his new role, Kansal will create an integrated strategic marketing plan for the company and oversee execution. He will drive product development efforts, including the development of positioning, marketing, communications and campaigns across The Times of India, The Economic Times and Mirror brands.

According to the circular, as CMO, Kansal’s key responsibility would be to keep these brands “relevant to the readers and attractive to the advertisers”. To ensure that, he will work closely with the Executive Editors and Brand Heads of TOI, ET, Mirror, and the Response and RMD departments.
