Ex HMV Raj Grover emerges as second-in-command to Sumantra Dutta

Radio is indeed a dynamic medium. The recent entry to the Radio City front is that of Raj Grover (erstwhile Head - India Operations and CEO, International Business and e-Operations, Saregama.), who has joined as General Manager. His role would encompass all of the station operations and he would be the second-in-command after Sumantra Dutta (COO, Radio City). Interestingly, the move comes as a prologue to Dutta taking over the reins of Star’s wireless operations, which would saddle him with a dual role (at the station level and at the wireless operations front). Grover could be the essential supplement that the station would need, on the event of Dutta taking on the dual role. This piece of information has emanated from market sources and when contacted, Radio City officials declined to either confirm or deny the same.

Grover is best known for his initiatives in propelling ‘Designer Music’ into India. CD burning or Burn on demand which was ever so prevalent outside the country, was kicked into action within the Hindi music realm, courtesy HMV. Through a website called, listeners had the option of selecting favorite numbers from an exclusive database spanning multiple languages and genres of Indian recorded music and creating their own CD, which would be then delivered to the doorstep within the next few days. What’s interesting is that even in the days when Internet was still catching up in India, there were quite a few takers what HMV had envisioned. Designer music, courtesy HMV was practically initiated by Grover.

We can only guess, as to the kind of value addition that Grover would be fetching to Radio City. If experience is anything to go by, City evidently has the icing on the cake.
