Eenadu’s I Venkat to move beyond media; to take up cause of an NGO

I Venkat, who had recently stepped down as Director in Eenadu Group, and was reported to be joining a new Telugu media venture, has put all rumours to rest. He has confirmed that his next move would be outside the media industry. After having worked with Eenadu for over 38 years, Venkat has decided to take the cause of an NGO in Andhra Pradesh.

“Thirty eight years is a long time, and I remember the assignment very fondly. The organisation I will be joining is currently engaged in the sphere of healthcare, with a focus on funding treatment of children with congenital heart condition; and is also moving into primary education. At a later stage, we might look at primary healthcare,” said Venkat.

When asked if he would be involved in a consulting capacity with any media organisation, he replied, “My primary job will be only with the NGO.” When quizzed on his present role at the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), he said, “The IBF is in a critical stage of evolution and I would love to contribute to it in my present capacity.”

Venkat has seen Eenadu grow from a print company to a media conglomerate straddling print, television, Internet and others. As Director, he was been responsible for the Group’s strategic forays across media and across state boundaries. Besides IBF, Venkat has also played active role in the Indian Newspaper Society, and has also been instrumental in guiding research, such as the Indian Readership Survey.
