In order to strengthen service and operations and to pursue aggressive business growth, rmg david has just hired Dharmendra Satapathy as its Mumbai Head. Satapathy has been in the business of advertising for over a decade working on a wide array of brands. His last assignment was with Lowe, Mumbai as a strategic planner on ICICI Prudential and Johnson & Johnson.
Confirming the news to exchange4media, Josy Paul, Country Head, rmg david, states, “The mandate before Dharmendra is to put certain systems in place within rmg david. He is an extremely intelligent and observant guy, with a scientific bent of mind and he would be able to provide us with some great analysis on certain brands. For the record, we did not have such a position in our Mumbai office earlier – it has been created solely for the purpose of decentralising our operations. Our structure now looks this way – we have Raja Ganapathy in the same capacity of Dharmendra and heading Chennai, and we would be appointing a Business Head in Delhi as well. We are currently negotiating with the person concerned, and would be in a position to make an announcement shortly.”
He adds, “In addition, we are planning to spruce up our operations in Hyderabad, since a fairly large piece of business is handled from there. I would say that we have arrived at a stage in our life where we rate ourselves as fairly successful agency and are quite happy with our growth. But with growth, comes consolidation. An agency like ours is too small to let talent remain latent. This means that we would actively seek new businesses, more so when it’s a category as active as banking or automobiles (where we feel that we have sufficient inputs to provide.) We undoubtedly, need larger canvases.”
Coming back to the new appointment, R Narayanan, COO, rmg david, asserts, “In his capacity, as the head of rmg david’s Mumbai branch, Dharmendra will closely be involved with brands like Cox & Kings, Essar Corporate, Essar Steel, Nitco Tiles, Oyzterbay, Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism and other exciting business wins. Dharmendra would add great value to both account planning and management. He would strengthen our Mumbai operations in a big way, and spearhead our game plan when it comes to new businesses. The last few years, have been growing years for us…but we are now in a position to move on to the next level, and consolidate our hold in terms of new businesses. The agency will now have three business heads for the three main offices (Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai) and it would help greatly in smoothing operations within.”
Previously, Satapathy was involved in brand building activities for Coca-Cola, Bajaj Auto, Iridium, Bolero, Scorpio while working with McCann, Lowe and Interface Communications. He has also spent two years in Lowe East Africa as the Clients Services Director, working on Unilever, Coca Cola, Emirates, Toyota and Standard Chartered amongst others.
