Devendra Chawla, who was Customer Service Director, Coca-Cola India, has left the cola major to join the Reliance group’s retail venture from May 22, 2006. Chawla, who was one of the youngest directors at Coca-Cola, is believed to be joining as ‘concept head’ for the supermarket initiative, though official confirmation on his exact designation is not yet available.. He is likely to look after an assortment of products, market, locations, etc.
On being contacted by exchange4media, Chawla said, “The Reliance retail venture is one of the most exciting retail initiatives in India. I am looking forward to the new challenge.”
DC, as Chawla is popularly known, was earlier managing the largest business unit for Coke as Area Operations Director, Andhra Pradesh. AP is one of the most successful markets for Coke in India. Before AP, he was Coke’s General Manager-North. He was with Coca-Cola for five and a half years.
Before joining Coke, Chawla had worked for Asian Paints as Branch Manager in
Mumbai and Ahmedabad. His last assignment was as Regional Manager for Mumbai, the largest paints market in India. He was with Asian Paints for five years.
Chawla started his career with Elmorison, a Nivea company. He has 12 years of experience in sales and marketing.
