After shaping his illustrious career for more than 36 years, Chintamani Rao retires today from Times Global Broadcasting. Rao had joined Times Global Broadcasting in February 2008 and has played an important role at Times Now and in the launch of ET Now.
Originally from the advertising/ marketing communications arena, Rao, being in the mould of a strategic marketing expert, worked with companies like Ogilvy & Mather and Lintas (now Lowe). Earlier, he was President of Integrated Communications at McCann Worldgroup, where he headed media services (Universal McCann), relationship marketing (MRM Partners), demand activation (Momentum), and healthcare communications (McCann healthcare) businesses.
Referring to his stint with India TV, Rao said, “My association with Rajat Sharma-led India TV happened by chance. I was not looking for a change, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.” He had also stated that switching from the advertising to the broadcasting line was not as difficult as some thought. “After all, both are two sides of a mirror and one cannot exist without the other,” he added.
However, unlike many who retire, Rao does not plan to hang up his boots, yet. Among other things, he is planning to pen a book on his experiences in advertising and broadcasting. He has also been approached to be on the board of several media companies and will be advising and consulting with them and various entrepreneurs.
Rao also writes a popular blog, called ‘Take it from Me’, on marketing and media.
