BV Rao has put in his papers as Group Editor at Zee News. He had joined Zee in March 2008 and was looking after Zee Business, Zee Online and Zee 24 Ghante Taas, besides Zee News. Prior to joining Zee, Rao was with Star News, where he was Senior Executive Editor.
Confirming the news to exchange4media, Barun Das, CEO, Zee News, said, “We wish Venkat all the best for his future endeavour. We will soon announce his successor.”
Commenting on his move, Rao said, “My mandate was to change the face of the channel (Zee News) and take it on the path of news, which we did very successfully. I’ve spent two-and-a-half decades in the profession. I’m now sitting back, taking a break, and evaluating what to do next.”
Rao began his career with Delhi Mid-Day in 1989, where he worked till 1991, before moving on to The Indian Express Bangalore, where he worked from 1991-94 as News Editor. Rao had three stints with The Express Group in Mumbai as well as Ahmedabad. In 1994, he joined Free Press Journal as Executive Editor and worked there for two years. He had also worked for The Times of India as Deputy Resident Editor for around a year. He was with the India Today Group for three years, and DNA Mumbai for a year as Associate Editor.
