Hindustan Times’ long search for an editorial boss lasting a year has finally come to an end. It is reliably learnt from sources close to the development that Sanjoy Narayan, currently Editor of Business Today, has put in his papers. He has been named as HT’s next Editor-in-Chief, the position lying vacant for the last 12 months after the departure of Chaitanya Kalbag on July 20, 2007.
There was no response to a text message sent to the concerned authority in HT Media seeking a formal confirmation. On his part, Narayan refused to comment when contacted.
It is learnt from informed sources that Narayan will be with Business Today till mid-August this year.
Narayan has been Editor of Business Today for almost a decade. He joined the magazine in January 1999, and took charge as its Editor in 2000. He has led an editorial team that has been successful in positioning Business Today as a leader in its genre.
Narayan has also been the COO of India Today Group Digital (ITGD) for the past one year. He has been leading the India Today Group’s plans to go digital in a big way with the ITGD initiative with a super website that would showcase all its properties under one umbrella.
Prior to joining Business Today, Narayan was Associate Editor with The Economic Times from 1996-1997. He began his career with The Telegraph in Kolkata. In between, he has also done a stint with Businessworld of the ABP Group. He has worked as a reporter, writer and editor in a career spanning over 25 years.
