BBC Worldwide has announced three new appointments in India to strengthen its Global Channels business operations in South Asia. Jasdeep Pannu has been appointed as Director of Programming, while Shaalu Wadhwa is now Director of Marketing & Communications. Abhijeet Deolekar has been named the Creative Director.
Pannu is responsible for all aspects of programming and scheduling for the channels in South Asia. He joined the Mumbai team in January 2008. With 10 years of television production experience, Pannu has worked across diverse genres and formats, including ideation, interactive programming, reality and factual programming. Prior to joining BBC Worldwide, he was Head of Programming for Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, where his responsibilities included delivering programming strategies, acquiring content, developing Discovery Channel’s first India productions and supervising promotional campaigns. Pannu began his career at New Delhi Television (NDTV) as Producer for Entertainment and Infotainment. He then moved on to Star Sports and later on to Sahara One as Creative Director.
Wadhwa took charge in February 2008 as Director of Marketing & Communications. She has over eight years’ experience in product development, brand communication, trade and business development and profit centre management. Prior to joining BBC Worldwide, she was Marketing Director with Nickelodeon India (a subsidiary of MTV Networks) and was instrumental in re-launching and positioning it. Previously, she had worked with Dakini Books Publishing House in New York and was Associate Director of Marketing at Cartoon Network India (Turner Group).
Deolekar joins BBC Worldwide’s Channels operations in India as Creative Director. He will be building on-air strategies as well as on-air branding for the new channels in India. He has over 12 years’ experience in the field of ad-film making and broadcast design. Deolekar produced and edited well-known series for Zoom Television and SAB TV. As Senior Producer, he supervised a team of designers to create the channel packaging and created packaging and promotional materials.
