Barun Das quits as Associate Publisher of Business Today; Pallav Moitra to join as Associate Publisher - Impact

Barun Das, Associate Publisher at the Business Group of the India Today group has put in his papers and is moving into a new role outside the group. Das has been with Business Today for almost 5 years and was looking after both marketing and advertising sales. Pallav Moitra will be replacing him as Associate Publisher - Impact.

Das, 35, joined the group almost five years ago, reporting into Ashish Bagga, then Publishing Director of the Business Group and now Executive Director of the India Today Group. In August 2004 Pawan Varshnei moved from Insight Lintas Media Group as Publishing Director, Business Group. Business Group publishes Business Today and Golf Digest currently.

Business Today became the number one in the Business magazines segment under the leadership of Bagga, with Das acting as an ideal foil. Das as second in command was a driving force of Business Today and was responsible for a number of revenue-generating marketing initiatives, including events. The events aided brand building, drove revenues and helped cement relationships with corporate India. Bagga's tenure and leadership saw Das leveraging the editorial strength of the magazine with Sanjoy Narayan as editor and helping Business Today attain and maintain leadership.

Das began his career with ABP and moved briefly to Zee's Publishing venture under Deepak Shourie before moving on to Business Today. An announcement regarding Das’ next move is anticipated.

Pallav Moitra, 43, who is joining as Associate Publisher - Impact is an industry veteran who started his career in industrial product marketing. Moitra also had stints in media marketing and space selling with the ABP group, TOI and Pioneer. Moitra has been an entrepreneur and was a pioneer in In-Flight magazine publishing. Moitra has been exposed to the television domain, outdoor ,event management and media consulting. Moitra had conceptualised the use of airline boarding cards as a medium of advertising when domestic airlines first made their entry.

Moitra has been a consultant to many media houses including Dainik Bhaskar and Zee News. Moitra will report to Pavan Varshnei and will look after Advertising Sales. There is likelihood that Varshnei will bring in a GM Marketing as part of the team.
