Arun Mahajan joins Jagran Prakashan’s J9 as Chief Technology Officer

Arun Mahajan has joined J9, a venture of Jagran Prakashan Ltd offering value added services on mobile and Web, as Chief Technology Officer. He will be looking after new product development and provide technology guidance for all existing and new ventures of J9.

Commenting on Mahajan’s appointment, Shailesh Gupta, Director, Jagran Prakashan Ltd, said, “We are pleased to have Arun on board at J9. I am sure with his vast experience in the domain he will bring immense value to the J9 set-up.”

Mahajan said, “I am extremely excited about the vision and team at J9. It is great fun working with a like-minded, aggressive and extremely entrepreneurial team. We will focus on developing products that will provide an edge to J9 and will be the best mix of consumer insights and technology.”

Prior to J9, Mahajan had worked with mobile value added service (MVAS) companies like Phoneytunes and Active Media.

Besides Mahajan, J9 has made some other key appointments. Dev Sharma has been appointed as Business Head of Operator Relationship & Business Development at J9 Mobile. He moves from ACL Wireless, a leading MVAS company.

Sharma said, “I am having a great time at J9 Mobile. The team is excellent and the projects in the pipeline are very exciting and would provide a definitive edge.”

Rajeev Dhal, Country Head, J9, said, “We are very happy with Arun Mahajan coming on board. He comes with immense experience, clear thought process and a bag full of wonderful MVAS project ideas. Arun will set up the NPD division, where we will identify and develop long term high grade Mobile 2.0 and Web 2.0 projects.”

On Sharma’s appointment, Dhal said, “We are very happy with Dev Sharma joining us. He brings good experience and willingness to challenge all limits. This has further boosted the team, and they are all geared up to face any challenge for the year ahead.”

Dhal further said, “J9 Mobile started commercial operations from April 2007 and in less than one year, the volumes have grown five-fold with revenue growing four times compared to the previous year. We are looking forward to delivering new products and services during the next year.”

Apart from J9 Mobile, J9 had also launched a home shopping network called J9 Shop in September 2006, and in a short span it has got very significant acceptance across five states and in FY09 J9 has very aggressive expansion plans for J9 Shop. J9 is gearing up to launch two more mega services within this financial year and we will make the announcements in due time.”
