Anup Chandrasekharan has just quit Derana Channel as CEO to return to India after three and a half years. Derana is Sri Lanka’s newest terrestrial television station. He is joining Zee Kannada as Business Head from February 15, 2007. He will be based in Bangalore.
Chandrasekharan was responsible for establishing the Derana channel 16 months ago from scratch. He even started interactive gaming content on the channel in a big way.
On Chandrasekharan’s appointment, Zee Kannada’s Sanghamitra Ghosh, Senior Executive VP-HR, said, “Chandrasekharan’s main role will be to put the Zee Kannada channel in order and increase its TRPs.”
Chandrasekharan said, “The reason I quit Derana channel is that I wanted to take on a new challenge in my hand and it is good to be back in the Indian media industry which is very buoyant.”
Chandrasekharan made quite an impact at Derana and the speed at which the channel made a mark in Sri Lanka. As the proprietors of Derana said, “It is amazing how a foreign personality has earned so much love and respect in a totally alien country and leaves with such goodwill. Derana was your baby more than ours.”
Chandrasekharan has had stints with Zee South as Assistant VP for five years. He has also worked in CNBC as sales manager for two years. He started his career with Plus Channel in Chennai where he spent three years.
