General Motors India has appointed Ankush Arora as Vice-President-Sales, Marketing & Aftersales. Arora will replace Amit Dutta, who has been transferred to GM Japan as Director, Marketing. Arora will take charge from January 1, 2006.
“We greatly appreciate the excellent jobs that Amit and Ankush have done at GM India. While Amit contributed immensely to the establishment of the Chevrolet brand in India, Ankush contributed significantly in boosting Optra and Tavera sales,” said Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, GM India.
Arora will be responsible for the vehicle sales, servicing and marketing function for the Indian subcontinent. He will be based at GM’s marketing office in Gurgaon and will report to Chaba.
Arora had joined GM India in January 1997 from Bahwans in Dubai as Manager-Fleets Sales. He went on an international assignment at GM’s Asia Pacific Headquarters, Singapore in January 2003 as Regional Manager-Sales Operation & Network Planning and did a remarkable job in supporting sales and distribution initiatives across the Asia Pacific region. He returned to GM India in February 2005 as Director-Sales and Aftersales.
Dutta, who was Vice-President-Sales, Marketing & Aftersales, is joining GM Japan as Director-Marketing, from January 1, 2006. He will be based at Tokyo and will report to the Managing Director of GM Japan.
Dutta had joined GM India on July 21, 2003 as Vice-President-Sales, Marketing & Aftersales. Prior to joining GM, he had put in over 15 years in sales and marketing. Dutta had started his career with Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd before moving to Hindustan Levers, where he spent 12 years in various marketing assignments. Prior to joining GM India, he was Marketing Head of Reliance Infocom, Mumbai’s wireless business.
GM India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Besides Chevrolet Tavera and Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Opel Corsa and Opel Corsa Sail at its facility in Halol, Gujarat. GM India also sells the imported Chevrolet Forester.
