Anindo Chakravarty has been promoted as Managing Editor of NDTV India. This key post had been lying vacant ever since the last incumbent, Dibang, had stepped down in August last year. Prior to this elevation, Chakravarty was Executive Editor, NDTV Profit.
Following Dibang’s exit, Executive Editors Sanjay Ahirwal and Manish Kumar had been jointly overseeing the day to day operations of NDTV India for over a year. Dibang, meanwhile, has been with the channel doing programmes like the weekly show ‘Muqabala’.
Confirming the development, Sameer Kapoor, CEO, NDTV India told exchange4media, “Along with the appointment of Chakravarty as Managing Editor, we have made Dibang Consulting Editor of the channel. He will be doing some specific programmes, besides the weekly show ‘Muqabala’, which he will continue to host.”
exchange4media learns that Dibang in his new position as Consulting Editor will cease to enjoy the pay and perks of Managing Editor, which he continued to get till now, even after relinquishing the post of Managing Editor last year.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Ahirwal has been designated as Executive Editor (National), while Manish Kumar is being relocated to Patna. Reliable sources in NDTV Group told exchange4media that Manish Kumar was being sent to Patna to beef up the coverage of Bihar, West Bengal and the North-East region. However, so far no decision had been taken as to what Kumar’s new role would be, Sameer Kapoor informed.
These top level changes at NDTV India are being seen in media circles as the channel’s attempt to strengthen serious news coverage, including political news and current affairs. These changes are a follow up to the top level changes made in August last year with a view to reposition NDTV India with increased focus on hard news. As part of these changes, Senior Editor Pankaj Pachauri was made Editor - Programming. Vinod Dua, who has been associated with the channel as a consultant, continues to play the role of mentor.
