Anil Srivatsa of ‘Anil Ki Awaaz’ fame, the largest syndicated South Asian radio show in the US and which earned him a place in the Limca Book of Records, will be joining India Today Group’s radio venture as COO. Srivatsa is currently Executive Vice-president of ImaginAsian Entertainment Inc, a US-based entertainment company.
When contacted, India Today Group’s MD, Anil Mehra, confirmed the news. Mehra further said that the Group was targeting the launch of its radio stations in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata by the year-end.
With a career spanning more than 17 years, Srivatsa also served as CEO (USA) and Head of International Marketing Operations at RTV UK, where he successfully launched several South Asian networks in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to his stint at RTV UK, Srivatsa was Director of Cricket and South Asian Programming at Kelly Broadcasting, where he oversaw the creation and development of the Cricket Channel.
Srivatsa has done his MSc in Telecommunications from Kutztown University and has a BA degree in Criminology, Public Administration, and Journalism from Mysore University.
Though Srivatsa could not be reached for his comments, his website – radiobakwaas.com – quotes him as saying, “I am looking for an entrepreneur who can back my plans to start a radio ‘News and Views’ station, either in America or in India. Radio has tremendous opportunities to reach out to people and advertisers would do well to see this as their vehicle to beam product / services messages. It will not only be cost effective but also creative. One has to understand this media to exploit it. I am all ready for it, but someone with big bucks and beliefs must be ready too.” He seems to have found his right backer in the India Today Group.
