Amit Upadhyay promoted to Director-Distribution & Development at BBC

BBC Global Channels, one of BBC Worldwide’s six commercial businesses, has promoted Amit Upadhyay as Director-Distribution and Development for the South-East Asia operations.

Upadhyay will be based in Mumbai, and will be responsible for the distribution and development of BBC’s three international brands -- BBC Entertainment, BBC World and CBeebies. He will temporarily report to Christine Leo-McKerrow, SVP, BBC Global Channels of Asia-Pacific, until a General Manager is appointed.

“Upadhyay was earlier responsible for BBC World as Head of Distribution and Business Development. He was responsible for increasing the reach of the channel across South Asia and played an important role in the recent conversion of BBC World from a non-encrypted free-to-air channel to an encrypted pay channel,” said an official communiqué from the channel.

Prior to this, Upadhyay was both Territory Manager and Assistant Manager for STAR India Pvt. Ltd, where he helped launch Star Movies and Star World as pay channels in India.
