Veteran journalist and former Vice-President of Sahara Samay news channels, Ambikanand Sahay, has been appointed as Head of News and Current Affairs of the NCR-centric news channel S1.
Sahay, who joined the channel from Tuesday, will head the news operations of the channel and spearhead the launch of proposed national news channel of the Delhi-based Senior Group, which is the promoter of the S1 channel.
Till recently the day-to-day news operations were being looked after by Mukesh Kumar, an ex-Sahara hand, working as Deputy News Editor.
Confirming Sahay's appointment, Vijay Dixit, Chairman of the Senior Group, told exchange4media that the veteran journalist's immediate task would be to upgrade the content of S1 channel.
"He will also be responsible for creating necessary news infratructure for the proposed national news channel. We plan to launch this channel by early next year. We are already in the process of expanding our news network. We have already set up our news bureaus in Bhopal, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Lucknow. And in the next one month we will be setting up bureaus in Dehradun, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Patna, Jaipur, Raipur and Ranchi."
Meanwhile, the launch of Senior Group's music channel – S1 Tadka – has been deferred due to the delay in the launch of the INSAT 4A satellite. "We had booked this satellite, which was to become operational towards the end of this month. We have our teleport operational and the approval from the I&B Ministry is already in place. As soon as the satellite is launched by the end of December, we will launch our music channel," Dixit said.
