Ambareesh Murty named Country Manager of eBay India

Online marketplace eBay India has promoted Ambareesh Murty as Country Manager. He took charge from March 11, 2008. Murty was earlier Director, Marketing & Operations at eBay India. In his new role, Murty would lead the eBay portfolio in India, including the eBay India Marketplace and the eBay India Motors Marketplace.

Murty has been with eBay India since December 2005, and over the last two years has held a variety of senior executive roles.

Said Murty, “I am delighted to take on my new role and am looking forward to leading the strong eBay eCommerce business in India.”

In the course of his career, Murty has worked for over five years as a packaged goods marketer with Cadbury Schweppes Plc with several successful brand initiatives under his belt. He also spent a couple of years with Prudential ICICI as VP-Marketing & Customer Service. He took time off from corporate life to pursue his own career adventure, setting up a successful financial training and advisory firm in Bangalore.

Rajan Mehra, the current Country Manager, eBay India, would be transitioning the role to Murty over the next few months and would subsequently be pursuing his entrepreneurial interests in the venture capital industry.

Mehra had led the eBay eCommerce business in India as Country Manager since September 2005. Among other accomplishments, he was responsible for conceptualising and building a successful nationwide B2B motors business – eBay India Motors Marketplace.
