Alok Sanwal quits GroupM to head Jagran’s proposed new media offering

Alok Sanwal, Investment Director, GroupM, has quit. He is joining Jagran Prakashan from September 7, 2006, and will be heading the group’s new media venture. Sources close to the development said Sanwal would join as CEO for Jagran’s proposed offering, which will be either a morning or evening tabloid.

When exchange4media contacted Shailesh Gupta, Director – Marketing, Jagran Prakashan, he said, “Sanwal is joining us to head the new media venture. Whether it will be a morning or evening paper is still under consideration. The only thing I can say at this stage is that it will be a tabloid and will be launched in the next 60-90 days.”

About his new assignment, Sanwal said, “My desire to work in an entrepreneurial mode has come true. I hope I will get this opportunity to come out with a product that is world class. My experience with GroupM has been rewarding, it was an exciting place to work.”

Sanwal has been with GroupM for two and a half years as Investment Director. He was handling all TV and non-television products like cable, radio, print, etc. As a central resource of GroupM based in Delhi, he was responsible for all investments of GroupM agencies in North and Kolkata.

Before GroupM, Sanwal had worked for Dainik Jagran for six years as General Manager. He was responsible for brand development for the Jagran Group. Before that he had worked for three and a half years with an engineering firm. He is a postgraduate from BITS, Pilani.
