After completing over six years, Alex Kuruvilla, MD, MTV Networks India, and EVP, MTV Networks Asia, has decided it’s time to move on. The announcement of his resignation has been made internally but details on who would take charge are still not known. As for where is he headed? Kuruvilla said, “I have a few options but work here has been so insane, I didn’t have enough time to think about anything. I think I need a few weeks more to answer that.”

However, Kuruvilla pointed out that his stint at MTV is not over yet. Said he, “They have asked to work on a few new business projects for which I still would be involved with the brand for some time.”

An official communiqué quoted Frank Brown, President, MTV Networks Asia Pacific, said, “We’re very sorry to see Alex go. He’s been with this company through challenging as well as triumphant times and has had a major role in making MTV Networks India the powerhouse of talent and ideas that it is today. However, Alex will continue to work with us on a few business projects for some time to come.”

Speaking more about his stint at MTV, Kuruvilla said, “I have had the best time of my life here but there comes a time, when one has to look ahead. This journey has been an exciting one so far, of taking the MTV brand to the leadership position it is in today and working on two new channels.”

In his responsibility at MTV, Kuruvilla was looking after MTV, Nick and VH1. He divulged that he had announced his decision in the office last week but he officially resigned yesterday. Kuruvilla is expected to be in office till the end of this month.

An advertising professional with a passion for music and entertainment, Alex Kuruvilla joined the company in 1999 from the erstwhile Hindustan Thompson Associates (now JWT). During his tenure, MTV has transformed from a single channel to a dynamic network consisting of three channels with the launch of kids’ channel Nick and, most recently, VH1, India’s only international music & lifestyle channel.

A replacement for Kuruvilla’s position will be announced shortly.

MTV India, the flagship brand, has carved a distinctly Indian identity for itself with pioneering efforts like MTV Youth Icon, MTV Style Awards, MTV IMMIES and the first soap on MTV India, Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. It has become the irreverent voice of youth in India, and is, by far, the number one youth entertainment channel in India.
