Ajit Varghese appointed as MD, Maxus India

Close on the heels of the announcement of Ajit Varghese quitting as COO of Madison Infinity, GroupM has some good news to share. The position left vacant by CVL Srinivas, CEO, Maxus, Asia Pacific has been filled, to some extent. Varghese comes on board to take care of the India role. He will be joining Maxus by November 10, 2006, and will be reporting to Vikram Sakhuja, COO, GroupM South Asia.

Prior to this, Varghese has been in the Madison set-up for over seven years. Confirming the development, Sakhuja said, “It is fantastic to have Ajit lead Maxus India. Over the last three years Srini had built Maxus India into a veritable powerhouse. I can think of no one better than Ajit to consolidate on this great start and take Maxus to new heights.”

CVL Srinivas added, “Ajit is a fantastic media professional with a great track record. I’ve had the good fortune of working with him for five years and learnt a lot from him. I am extremely happy to be passing on the reigns of this fabulous agency in India to Ajit. Maxus couldn’t have got a better leader to see it through the next phase of its development.”

Srinivas would be in Maxus till the end of November 2006 to ensure a smooth transition.

Varghese, a management post graduate from XIMB, started his career with IMRB. He then moved to Lintas, where he was part of the Strategic Planning team on HLL. He joined Madison in 1999 to work on the Coca-Cola account. He soon became the business head of Coke, and eventually the COO, overseeing businesses like Coke, Marico, McDonald’s, Dominos, Tata Tea, and TVS, among others.
