Agnello Dias quits JWT, Santosh Padhi bids adieu to Leo Burnett; join hands for a new start-up

Agnello Dias, Chief Creative Officer, JWT, and Santosh Padhi, National Head and Creative Director, Leo Burnett, India, have put in their papers at their respective agencies. It is learnt that the creative duo has decided to join hands to launch a new agency, whose name is yet to be decided on.

Dias most recently served as Executive Creative Director at JWT Mumbai and was promoted to the CCO position in early 2008. He will continue to be at JWT until January 2009, working towards a phased-out handover, which will be an integral part of the succession plan. The entrepreneurial bug has been with Dias for a while, and he has now decided to venture out on his own.

Confirming the news, Dias said, “I’ve had a wonderful time at JWT, which has provided a fantastic canvas for my creativity and has helped me achieve creative highs, unlike any other. Seeing the energy that surrounds me here, I believe for JWT this is just the beginning.”

On Dias’ departure, Colvyn Harris, CEO, JWT India, said, “Agnello has played a very important role in the creative success of JWT in recent years, and we appreciate all his efforts towards this end. Over the next couple of months, he will be an integral part of a succession plan – that ensures a seamless change in creative management for our clients. We are fortunate that our strategy of full service creative talent in each and every business unit we have in our markets will be able to seamlessly continue with their roles and responsibilities.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the new venture, Padhi said, “We had been planning for this venture for quite some time, and last week we decided that it was time to tap in the ad world. As of now, we have not yet decided on a name for the agency. I will be serving the notice period of 2-3 months, and if things don’t go well, then we can surely fall back on what we are currently doing.”

In related developments at JWT, Tista Sen has been promoted to Senior Vice President & ECD Mumbai, Shamik Sengupta is being transferred as Head of Creative, Kolkata, while Mahendra Bhagat is being promoted as National Creative Director, Fortune.
