Abhijit Roy elevated as MD of Berger Paints

Abhijit Roy has assumed the position of Managing Director at Berger Paints India with effect from July 1, 2012 following the retirement of Subir Bose.

As company’s COO, Roy has played a very crucial role in fuelling Berger Paints’ success in reaching Rs 3000 crore milestone, said an official release.

He held the position of COO and Director since 2011.

Roy joined Berger in the year 1996 as Product Manager for ColorBank Tinting System. After helping the company to consistently outperform the market, he was promoted as the General Manager Marketing in 2004 where he was responsible for the entire marketing function for Berger Paints Indian operations.

In 2007 he was promoted as VP Sales and Marketing, handling sales, marketing, logistics and consumer services of the Decorative Business which contributed to about 80 per cent of the company’s turnover of Rs 3000 crore. He was also in charge of the company’s overseas operations in Nepal and Russia.

He launched the consumer services function including Home Painting during this period. He also worked with Shining Strategies for Corporate Brand Restructuring of Lewis Berger (from Berger Paints to Lewis Berger). It was during his time that two flagship brands of the company namely WeatherCoat and Rangoli Easy Clean were launched.

He has done his BE – Mechanical from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He started his post MBA career in the year 1991 with Asian Paints. After three years in Asian Paints working in sales in West Bengal based in Calcutta, Roy joined Lab Garnier, a division of L’Oreal, in 1994 (when it entered India) and was instrumental in launching Ultra Doux shampoo and Synergie brands of Garnier in East India.
