Aakar Patel, Mid-Day Group Editor-in-Chief, quits; to join Divya Bhaskar

Aakar Patel, Group Editor-in-Chief of Mid-Day, has finally decided its time to move on. Patel is on his way to joining Divya Bhaskar as its Group Editor-in-Chief. Confirming the development, Tariq Ansari, Managing Director, Mid-Day Multimedia, informed that Patel would be with the organisation till the end of November and a replacement would be decided closer to that date.

Patel has been with Mid-Day for six years now. He joined the group as Editor of Mid-Day. Three years later, he became Group Editor and looked after the English, Urdu and Gujarati publications.

Said Ansari, “It has been a pleasure working with Aakar. But he has been expressing for some time now his desire to expand in the language publications domain and play a larger game on that front. So this decision didn’t come as a surprise.”

The next plan of action is also in place. Ansari said that with a highly competent second level, the operations of the Mid-Day group would proceed smoothly. Agreeing with Ansari, Patel said, “The team at Mid-Day is competent and is the best in the domain.”

Commenting on his stint with Mid-Day, Patel said, “Having grown 20 per cent over the last ABC, which is the fastest that Mid-Day has ever grown, I couldn’t think of a better way of leaving. My experience here has been fulfilling and fun. I am moving to Gujarat now and needed a great challenge – Divya Bhaskar fits the bill.”

In his new role, Patel would be the national head for Divya Bhaskar, where the heads of various centres would be reporting to him. Bhaskar officials expressed that Patel’s appointment was in view of Divya Bhaskar’s aggressive plans for the future and would strengthen the whole team.
