Following the decision of Sanjoy Narayan to move out by the middle of next month, the India Today Group on Thursday announced the new editorial leadership for Business Today. Rohit Saran will take over from Narayan as Editor of Business Today, with effect from August 16, 2008. He will simultaneously continue to oversee the editorial leadership of the magazines that he is currently responsible for.
Narayan is set to join Hindustan Times as Editor-in-Chief sometime next month.
Simultaneously, Brian Carvalho, currently Executive Editor, Business Today, is being promoted as Managing Editor of the magazine. This follows the decision of R Sridhar deciding to move on to a new assignment outside the India Today Group. Carvalho will take charge from September 15, 2008.
When contacted, Ashish Bagga, CEO, India Today Group, confirmed the news.
Saran is currently Managing Editor, Money Today, the personal finance magazine of the India Today Group. He was earlier Executive Editor, India Today, in-charge of the Business & Economy section. He has been with the India Today Group for 14 years, having joined as Assistant Editor in-charge of business coverage. Saran had previously worked as a reporter with The Pioneer for less than a year. He had started out as a sub-editor-cum-reporter with The Economic Times.
A business journalist since 1991, Saran holds a Master’s degree in Economics. He has also taught journalism at Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, USA.
