Media Expo 2007: OOH under the scanner again

Media Expo 2007, an exhibition to showcase the latest in the space of indoor and outdoor advertising and signage solutions, concluded on February 18, 2007 at Mumbai. The exhibition, which saw players in this space coming in from various corners of the country, had the right blend of machinery and products. If in previous years, the focus was on flex banners, this year, it has progressed to 3D imaging. The exhibition also was a live demo factory, with many printing companies demonstrating their printing equipments and accessories on the spot.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was the showcasing of 3D motion imaging technique by 3D Holograms. Commenting about the importance of the outdoor medium in advertising, Pawan P S Rana, Asst Manager, Marketing, 3D Holograms said, “Outdoor is the most happening industry today. With more and more people going to malls and multiplexes to buy their goods, brands have to catch their attention. As a result, outdoor advertising is gaining more focus these days and has become a part of almost every media plan.”

Some of the other innovative products on display included digital signage for indoor as well as outdoor use. Some of the visitors to the expo observed that in the previous years, more prominence was given to the production and use of flex as a material for outdoor advertising. However, with the advent of acrylic and other variants along with numerous innovations, the scenario has shifted. Brands that want to attract attention quickly and break clutter in the medium, are on the constant lookout of new eye-catching products.

Talking on the growing importance of ‘outdoor’ as a medium in the indoor and outdoor advertising space, Rana pointed out that outdoor is the most effective supportive medium for any campaign to succeed. Speaking about the future of the outdoor space, he believes that ‘Outdoor’ will not be just big hoardings but will also have many interactive features along with simultaneous audio and visual content.

Office expo 2007 was also underway in the same exhibition centre. This expo was aimed to provide complete workplace solutions.

Media Expo 2007, which closed its doors on February 18, 2007 will now move on to the other markets like Delhi and Singapore very soon. With the quality and quantity of content at display in this year’s expo, it is assured that we will see much more stuff in the future expos to come.
