With Ahmedabad getting mega city status and in order to showcase its urban infrastructure, the Gujarat government has decided to implement the General Development Control Regulation (GDCR) policy in the city. As part of the policy, the clutter of private hoardings would be done away with.
The Gujarat High Court recently passed an order to ban all private sites/hoardings at the ground level in the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority Area. The law, which was enacted two years’ back, has come into effect now. However, hoardings operated by the municipal corporation would continue to remain and so would be the ones put on the terraces of high rises. With this order, the state government has tried to bring about a change in the outdoor advertising scene of Gujarat.
However, local OOH players have been expecting the implementation of the order for some time now and aren’t taken aback by it.
Kiran Vadodaria, CMD, Sambhaav Group, said, “This has been initiated so as to beautify Ahmedabad, which has become a mega city. It will ensure less traffic congestion, thereby making the city safe too. This decision by the government will ensure better visibility and better value for money for advertisers.”
