Bangalore Transport Corp assigns PIS rights for bus shelters to Keltron India

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is all set to implement the long awaited passenger information system (PIS). Keltron India Ltd has bagged the rights to set up the PIS, planned as a pilot project, in approximately 80 bus shelters en route the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) by the end of December 2008. In subsequent phases, BMTC plans to extend the system across all its city services.

A source close to the development said, “BMTC has awarded the tender for PIS to Keltron India Ltd. With the implementation of PIS, which is supported by Global Positioning System (GPS), real-time information on bus arrival/ departure schedules shall be displayed at the shelters.”

With this, BMTC is looking at enhancing passenger experience and ensuring greater citizen endorsement of public transport.
