Vikatan Group forays into film production

Vikatan Group, publisher of popular magazines like ‘Ananda Vikatan’ and ‘Junior Vikatan’ among others, has forayed into film production. The first film to be made under the Vikatan Talkies banner is titled ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ (SMS). ‘Valmiki’ is another film under production.

The media group is already into producing television serials through its production house Vikatan Tele Vistas. ‘Kolangal’, one of the serials produced by Vikatan Tele Vistas, has been running successfully on Sun TV for the past five years during prime time.

Speaking about the Group’s foray into television, B Srinivasan, Publisher and Managing Director, Vikatan Group, said, “We have been into television production for 10 years now, and film production is an automatic extension of our production facility and our production ability. Being in TV production for 10 years, I believe I have reasonable ability to choose a good product and a winning product. If I can do it on television, then I can do it on the big screen too.”

Ideally Srinivasan would like to produce 4-5 movies in a year. “But how many movies I can produce depend purely on the stories, directorial talents, starcast and other things. Right now, there are two films under production,” he added.

Vikatan Group also recently unveiled the all new youthful ‘Ananda Vikatan’, which was unveiled by Srinivasan.

The 83-year-old Tamil magazine’s latest avatar is bigger with a lot more colour and interactive content. Two magazines would be published every week. The Group would also launch a new website targeting younger readers. The content for the site would be from the younger readers and the best from the website would be published in the magazine.
