Unveiling soon: The Media Maharathis of India

This has been a frequent lament of the media fraternity that Hindi media hasn’t got its due credit. While Hindi media has been doing commendable work to bring the various issues of India’s heartland to the fore, the recognition of that work has often not been very forthcoming.

In order to honour and recognise the work of Hindi journalists, exchange4media and samachar4media have come up with an initiative to felicitate the top 50 journalists across the country from print and television.

An eminent jury panel met in New Delhi on April 22, 2013 to select the top 50 media marvels or Media Maharathis. The jury panel included Rajendra Yadav, noted Hindi writer and Jury Chairperson; Dr Ved Pratap Vaidik, political analyst and columnist; Ram Bahadur Rai, Former Editor, Jansatta; Nida Fazli, noted Urdu poet, Dr Pushpesh Pant, noted academic and historian; Dr Subhash Kashyap, Former Secretary General, Lok Sabha; Prof BK Kuthiala, Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism & Communication, Bhopal; Rajiv Mishra, CEO, Lok Sabha TV; Asgar Wajahat, noted playwright; and Ravi M Khanna, South Asia Bureau Chief Editor, Voice of America.

The media marvels have been selected on different criteria such as contribution to Hindi media, contribution to the organisation, leadership, professional and personal achievements, and influence to the industry and society.

The jury members feel that such an initiative will give a huge boost to the new as well as veterans in the industry and also set benchmarks for the industry.

The 50 Media Maharathis will be unveiled as a special awards ceremony to be held in the second week of May 2013 in the presence of senior journalists, writers, poets, political leaders, advertising and media professionals and other prominent citizens from various walks of the society.
