This last one year has been a difficult one for the industry across the several domains. But amid the slowdown environment there have been quite a few who came up with out-of-the-box ideas, showed resilience and fought back.
These are the stars who chanced upon the downfall in circumstances and the market conditions and used it to their advantage. And now as the industry recovers gradually, the differentiators are being spoken about in great detail. And it will be one among these differentiators – from the media, advertising and marketing fraternity – who will be adjudged the impact Person of the Year 2009.
This year, the annual impact Person of the Year event is scheduled to be held at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai on December 17, 2009.
As is known, the impact Person of the Year award is presented every year to one person or group of persons chosen by his/ her/ their peers in the industry for having made maximum impact in the domains of media, advertising and marketing. As is the trend, this year, too, a mailer was sent out by impact and our research partner, Nielsen, asking industry people to suggest names of those they thought deserved the honour.
This led to the shortlist of 12 nominees. These include: (in alphabetical order of the last names) Sam Balsara (Madison World), Subhash Chandra (Essel/Zee Group), Haresh Chawla (Network18), Arnab Goswami (Times Now), Samir and Vineet Jain (The Times of India Group), Rajesh Kamat (Colors), Kalanidhi Maran (Sun Network), Harit Nagpal (Vodafone), Vikram Sakhuja (GroupM), Ronnie Screwvala (UTV Network), Uday Shankar (Star India), and Rajiv Verma (HT Media).
Post selecting the 12 shortlists, Nielsen reached out to a cross-section of media/ advertising/ marketing people, asking them to select their Person of the Year. (It must be noted that no one from the exchange4media group has any role or say in the final selection of the impact Person of the Year. This is an Award decided by our industry.)
So who will steal the thunder this year? It will be revealed on December 17, 2009. Watch this space.
