Bates Kolkata was adjudged the Kolkata Agency of the Year for the third time in succession at the eighth edition of the Sangbad Pratidin Srijon Samman Awards for excellence in Bengali advertising. O&M Mumbai was declared National Agency of the Year.
Bates Kolkata also bagged 10 Golds, eight Silvers and a Bronze mostly for their work for The ABP Group. Their wins included the joint golds in the Original TVC category for the Friends FM film and the Best Consumer Product Campaign for the Friends FM teaser campaign.
O&M Mumbai bagged three Golds, one Silver and one Bronze. The agency won the Golds in the Dubbed TVC category for Hutch (‘Bond is in town’), Best Ad for Sponsored / Promo Event and Public Service campaign, both for Ponds (‘Women for Women Fund’).
As in the past few years, there was considerable participation from Bangladeshi agencies. Grey Worldwide was Bangladesh Agency of the Year. Their work for the Nokia Bangla range won the joint Gold for Best Consumer Product Campaign as well as Best Original TVC. The agency also bagged a Gold for Best Colour Print campaign.
Mohammed Khan, Chairman, Bates David Enterprise, was conferred the Lifetime Award from Sangbad Pratidin.
Two new awards were introduced this year – Best Copywriter, won by Bates Kolkata’s Shouvik Mishra for ABP, and Best Art Director, which was shared by Javed Akhtar Suman and Upal Roychowdhury of Grey Bangladesh for their work on Nokia.
The judging process was completed ahead of the awards ceremony and the panel of judges this year included Subhabroto Ghosh, CEO Saatchi & Saatchi; Jayanta Roy, Director, Peerless; Basabdatta Choudhury, COO Madison; Debashis Mitra, Deputy General Manager, Toyota Kirloskar India; poet Joy Goswami; designer Sharbari Datta; and Shouvik Mishra, Creative Director, Bates.
The well attended awards function was anchored by film director Rituporno Ghosh and actress Raima Sen.
