Sameer Nair appointed as COO

Star India has appointed Sameer Nair as its chief operating officer. Nair was responsible for programming of all the Star channels in India. He will continue to report to Peter Mukherjea, the chief executive officer.

Nair has been with Star India for the last 8 years and ever since has moved up the ladder steadily. He is credited as one of the main persons behind the game show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”, and roping in Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on to the small screen. For Star, which was trailing rivals Zee and Sony till then, there was no looking back.

Nair began his career with the Star Network at ‘Star Movies’ when it was first launched in India. He was in charge of handling ad positions and buying of movies.

He then moved on the position of head of on-air promotions and presentations and then to programming. In 1999 he was made the head of programming.

Prior to beginning his stint at Star India, Nair was working with an advertising agency in Chennai.
