Reporter's Diary: Broadcast sector - my new found love

Delayed press conferences helped me understand the ‘pain’ of our broadcast reporters in the past few days. This is how I got introduced to the broadcast zone as I was pitching in place of one of my colleagues who has been unwell. For the past seven and a half months that I have been with exchange4media, I have been handling the advertising and radio beats. And of late, I have also been working on the broadcast sector.

Getting to comprehend television was like learning a whole new skill. I recently went for the UTV Stars launch press conference wherein were present the likes of Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, Farah Khan, Ronnie Screwvala, Zarine Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar.

Later, I went for the India’s Got Talent press conference and was lucky to have got the opportunity to witness some of the most amazingly talented people that our country has. The ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ press conference was another grand experience.

I also faced some disappointment during the week, when even after following up on a news insanely I ended up missing it, because the official concerned had requested me to wait till he gave his confirmation on the news. I woke up the following day to my boss’ message saying that the news had appeared as top headline on a competitor’s website. And the official quoted in their report was the very same person who had promised to give me a confirmation. Sigh! such is life…

But I am learning to take such instances in my stride and soldier on. The sooner a journalist understands that, the better he/ she is able to cope with working in this field.

Now, I am very much looking to unwind and refresh myself over this long weekend. Wishing all a very Happy Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day.
