Rahul Narvekar completes ‘Fashion and you’ founding team; hunt for creative agency begins

The founding team of the recently launched luxury private online shopping club Fashionandyou.com is complete with Rahul Narvekar on the team as Co-Founder and Director. As is known, Pearl Uppal, former Director, Sales, Yahoo India is a part of the team as its Co-founder & CEO. Aakash Goel has joined as Director IT & Operations, Fashion and You.

Prior to joining Fashion and You, Narvekar was the Senior General Manager, DLF Retail Developers. Narvekar brings with him over 15 years of experience in retail and media. Goel, previously a consultant with McKinsey and Co., has served multinational clients across India, Europe and North America in areas of operations, strategy and organization.

Harish Bahl is the Indian investor, founder and Chairman of Fashion and You and he brings with him 15 years of successful entrepreneurship. Bahl is the founder CEO of Smile Interactive Technologies Group and has incubated and grown several successful leading online businesses like Quasar (WPP Digital & Smile JV) , Tyroo (Smile & Yahoo Joint venture) , Zoomtra and Zumtra.

While Fashion and You has already launched its India operations, the online shopping club is expected to launch its website and open membership to consumers on Monday, November 16, 2009.

It has been learnt that Fashion and You is on the hunt for creative and PR agencies, and that the ad spend would be substantial. In conversation with exchange4media.com, Narvekar said, “We plan to hire the best of agencies in this domain for Creative and PR. The pitch is certainly on and ad spend will also be good. Since we are an online e-commerce player internet and mobile would be the key push.”

Speaking further on his reasons to be with Fashion and You, Narvekar said, “Fashion and You is the rage in discreet sales of luxury brands globally and I always wanted to go back to the entrepreneurship space and considering the opportunity of partnering with one of the icons of the online industry. Harish Behl who has had the most successful track record having incubated and partnered with organisations such as WPP and Yahoo and also teaming up with Pearl Uppal and Aakash Goel was the real clincher.”

“My priorities at Fashion and You are essentially to be the key connect with luxury and bridge to luxury brands, ensure that they partner with us for long term and bring about a revolution in the luxury retail industry. Since we are part of a global brand alliance in seven countries and our partners work with every known brand in the luxury and bridge to luxury space my responsibility is to ensure that these brands are partners with us” added Narvekar.

Fashion and You is aimed at bringing luxury and high fashion brands at discounts up to 70 per cent off retail to its members. Membership to Fashion and You is by invitation only. Fashion and You India is part of a global brand alliance and has completed its first round of funding from European and Indian private investors. With this funding and global know- how of the brand alliance operating in Brazil, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Turkey and Australia, Fashion & You plans to become a significant sales channel for high fashion brands contributing to at least 10 per cent of their sales in India by the year 2011.
