Obituary: Remembering Vivek Dev Sharma of Mindspace

Vivek Dev Sharma, a well-known figure in the world of advertising, passed away on Monday, May 9. He was head of the strategy planning function at Mindspace Communication Consultants, a Delhi-based advertising agency.

"To me, VDS - that's what we called him -- was a mentor who guided me every step of the way. He dazzled us with his insights; he cheered us up with his pranks," said Ritu Memani, Director, Mindspace. "I don't think there can ever be another VDS for me. He is irreplaceable."

Recently VDS, along with Sajal Mukherjee devised the programme for the media studies courses at Futuristix Media Communication Center.

Even while leading a hectic work life, VDS found time to pursue his interests in theatre, painting and literature.

Remebered Sabu Paul, Creative Director, Mindspace, "He was a treasure trove of wisdom and experience. A voracious reader, he could talk knowledgeably about anything under the sun. It was a pleasure to work with him."

VDS spent close to 20 years in the communications industry. His past assignments included strategy planning at Maadhyam Advertising, Mudra and Clarion. He was also part of the team that led Reliance's foray in the media world, and was among the core team that developed the prototype training programme for Mudra.

He had also been associated with, a youth-based web magazine where he conducted extensive studies on the youth, compiled as the 360 Y-A Comprehensive View of the Indian Youth.

Fondly remembered by those who worked with him, and the many hundreds who he trained over the years, the legacy Vivek Dev Sharma left to the industry is substantial.
