MIPCOM 2007: Focus on India; Subhash Chandra, Ronnie Screwvala to deliver keynote address

The world’s audiovisual and digital content market is set to honour the Indian media and entertainment industries at the 24th edition of MIPCOM 2007 at Cannes. The event this year is scheduled from October 8-12.

In partnership with FICCI, a special focus, entitled ‘India Day’, will examine the growth and potential of the country's film, television and animation sectors, and look at market-specific opportunities for global development. ‘India Day’ will take place on October 8.

Alongside two panels dedicated to Indian TV and programming, two media moguls will each address keynote speeches. Subhash Chandra, Founder and Chairman, of Zee Network and Essel Group of Companies, will discuss the phenomenal growth of the Indian television market and how new technology will impact the future in a speech titled ‘The Indian Market Explosion: What does the future hold’.

Ronnie Screwvala, Founder and Chairman of UTV Group, will present a speech titled ‘Indian Media - A global destination’, which will examine the key emerging sectors of the Indian media market, especially film, animation and their international development. To close ‘India Day’ the MIPCOM 2007 Opening Night Party will have a distinctly Indian flavour.

Paul Johnson, Director of the Television Division of Reed MIDEM, said, “In 2015, revenue from pay television and cable and satellite channels in India will be the largest in Asia. ‘India Day’ at MIPCOM will display how vibrant, dynamic and talented the Indian entertainment industry is and the opportunities it offers for the global television industry.”

Amit Mitra, Secretary General, FICCI, said, “FICCI is very happy to partner with Reed MIDEM at MIPCOM to give international exposure to the Indian entertainment industry, which has matured enough to compete globally. Revenues from the Indian television industry are expected to grow from $4.2 billion today to $11 billion by 2011. Quality content will continue to be a crucial driver for the development of media in India and indeed everywhere, and we look forward to delivering the very best of India at MIPCOM in October.”

MIPCOM 2007 will welcome an important Indian delegation from all sectors of the entertainment industry.
