Developments at the global level in Grey Worldwide, which is in the process of being integrated with WPP, is showing its effects on the media side of the agency’s business as well. MediaCom is all set to become a GroupM company, effective January 1, 2006. The transition is taking place worldwide and will be applicable in India as well.
“We are working very hard for the transition to take place smoothly,” remarked Irwin Gotlieb, Worldwide CEO, GroupM. “However, details on how this happens on a country to country basis have still to be decided.”
The only confirmed information at this stage is that MediaCom will join MindShare, MEC and Maxus in strengthening GroupM even more in the Indian market and on the international scene.
If the last RECMA is to be considered, in the Indian market, GroupM, with its existing agencies, has around 39 per cent market share. MediaCom’s share is roughly estimated at 10 per cent.
“With this integration, we will have more than 40 per cent of the market. This is a very positive development and will consolidate our presence further,” observed Gotlieb.
