Media, the Hong Kong-based media, advertising and marketing publication, has announced the winners of its annual ‘Agency of the Year’ awards for 2005. The annual Media awards recognise the people, agencies and clients in the Asia Pacific region who have excelled in the advertising field. The awards were announced on December 14 in Hong Kong.
From India, GroupM’s Prashanth Kumar won the award for Best Media Planner/Buyer of the year. Speaking to exchange4media, he said, “It’s a great motivating factor to go on and do better work in the years to come. It is all about team work and I share the happiness with the entire team at group M, from my boss to by team mates.”
Kumar moved to GroupM a year and a half ago, from TME, Mumbai. Based at GroupM Bangalore, he has worked on clients across South India, and the list includes Britannia, Titan, Lenovo, Ford and IBM. The runner up in the category was Grace Yao, of Carat Media Services, Hong Kong.
TBWA\Asia Pacific has won the Agency of the Year title for second year in a row, while MindShare Asia Pacific is Media Agency of the Year for the third year running.
“The 2005 contest was not only the biggest ever, but also the most intense in the competition's 12-year history. Each judge received two large courier boxes filled to bursting with entries and supporting documents as there were 41 percent more entries this year, for a total of 137 submissions,” said Sharon Desker Shaw, Editor-in-chief, Media.
The judging panel comprised of six senior regional marketers from key business categories, two members of Media's editorial staff, and each judge reviewed the entries individually. PricewaterhouseCoopers returned as auditors for a third time to ensure the judging process was conducted with integrity and impartiality, according to a Media release.
TEQUILA\ Asia Pacific, a subsidiary of TBWA, was named One-To-One Agency of the Year, and its regional Managing Director, Philip Brett, was announced Runner Up in the Regional Agency Head of the Year category. Besides these, OMD Hong Kong's media planning and buying work was recognized through Levi Strauss & Co.'s win as ‘Marketer of the Year’.
The runners up for Agency of the Year were Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific and Publicis Asia Pacific, and the runner up Media Agency of the Year was ZenithOptimedia Asia Pacific.
