Ifra Expo India 2007 to showcase 'Newsroom of the Future'

The Ifra Expo India 2007 will be held for the first time in India in Chennai. This is the first ever Ifra Expo to be held outside Europe. Over 2,000 delegates from India, South and West Asia are expected to attend this three-day Expo to be held from September 4 and 6 this year.

The ‘Newsroom of the Future’ pavilion is expected to be a major draw at the expo. Several speakers from India and abroad will share their experiences at the Technical and Publishers’ Forums at the Expo. Ifra Expo India 2007 will be co-sponsored by The Indian Newspaper Society.

The first pavilion will demonstrate the working of Newsplex, Ifra’s multi-media newsroom concept, which is referred to here as the ‘Newsroom of the Future’. The 400-year history of newspaper and printing pavilion will display pictures and play video, and track the progress of the newspaper printing technology from the letterpress to the e-newspaper. A handout on the subject will be presented to visitors to the Expo.

Visitors attending the expo can see first-hand offerings from suppliers of press and pre-press equipment; imaging, editorial workflow and mailroom solutions, content management, advertising, and workflow management systems; and the latest in IT.

Dr Dietmar Schantin, Director, Ifra Newsplex, Germany, will demonstrate the working of the newsroom of the future. The Newsplex team will provide advice and support for developing and implementing media-integrated newsroom strategies, as well as advise on journalistic skill development for analogue and digital media. The second Ifra Newsplex training facility is at the University of South Carolina, USA.

Founded in 1961, Ifra is the only international organisation of its kind, which provides the ideal platform for forging diverse contacts between publishing houses and supplier companies to the media industry. There are more than 3,000 members in about 80 countries, who utilise the concentrated know-how of this organisation.

Besides staging the newspaper industry’s largest international exhibition every year in October, Ifra annually organises several regional exhibitions, international conferences, seminars, workshops and training events worldwide.
