Golds for Indian Express, NDTV at WAN-IFRA Awards

The Indian Express and NDTV have bagged Golds at the WAN-IFRA Asian Digital Media Awards 2012. The Awards were given away at a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur on November 27.

Social media was one of the most contested categories this year at the Asian Digital Media Awards. The Indian Express won the Gold in the Best in Social Media category. NDTV Convergence, Social Media are Singapore Press Holdings and Star Publications (Malaysia) bagged the Silver in this category. Tribun Pekanbaru won the Bronze in this category.

Pichai Chuensuksawadi, Editor-in-Chief, Bangkok Post, awarded the trophy to Anant Goenka, Head - New Media, The Indian Express.

Reacting to the Award, Goenka said, “It’s a wonderful accomplishment for the team. A high-recall brand like Indian Express is very powerful on social media – on both ‘open graph’ and the ‘interest graph’ platforms. The trick to take our legacy viral, create more content which goes beyond the newspaper and appeals to a younger audience. In fact, internally we like to call it the ‘m edition' rather than just a fan page.”

Meanwhile, NDTV took home the Gold in the Best in Tablet Publishing category. PT Kompas Media Nusantara won the Silver and Trend VG3 won the Bronze in this category.

Malayala Manorama won a Bronze in the Best in Mobile Media category for Manorama Mobile. Singapore Press Holdings won the Gold and AFP-INFOPLUM won the Silver in this category.

The Best in Online Media category saw NDTV walk away with a Bronze. Singapore Press Holdings and South China Morning Post Publishers shared the Gold in this category. APN Digital (New Zealand) won the Silver.

WAN-IFRA was created in July 2009 with the merger of the World Association of Newspapers and IFRA, the research and service organisation for the news publishing industry. The global organisation represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries, states the organisation’s website. It holds awards every year in the online media, online video, social media, mobile media, cross media, online infographics and tablet publishing categories.
