K Subrahmanyam, a prominent foreign affairs analyst, journalist and former Indian civil servant, passed away on February 2, 2011. Born in 1929, Subrahmanyam succumbed to his lung and cardiac ailment in Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was 82 years old.
Subrahmanyam had enthralled several generations with his intriguing and investigative columns in various newspapers such as The Tribune, The Economic Times, The Times of India and The Indian Express. He had also served as a Consulting Editor and policy expert for various newspapers.
A true visionary and thinker, Subrahmanyam was considered as one of the top analysts in international relations, foreign affairs and global security issues. He had represented India in various foreign forums and had held key government posts over the years. He was also the founding director of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.
Subrahmanyam is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
