Radio as a medium has been flourishing in recent times and a testimony to this is the fact that crores of rupees is being invested by companies for setting up hundreds of stations by the yearend. Understanding the importance of content in this medium, Ficci Frames 2007 has scheduled two sessions on content available on radio.
In the plenary session for Radio Track scheduled for March 28, 2007, the topic chosen for discussion is ‘Radio: Music & Beyond’. Commenting on it, Amita Sarkar, Director and Head-Entertainment Division, FICCI, said, “The medium which once was not in fashion is now very much in vogue and escalating in terms of outreach every passing day. Let’s have a feel of the future on basis of success stories which have turned around the radio business across the globe.”
The plenary session will include experts from the radio industry such as A P Parigi, Chairman FICCI Radio Forum and CEO and MD, ENIL; Apurva S Purohit, CEO, Radio City; Tarun Katial, COO, Big FM; and Steve Ahern, Head-Radio Branch, AFTRS, Australia, among others.
The other topic for discussion is ‘Creating Compelling Content for Radio’ which will be moderated by Anurradha Prasad, MD, BAG Films. Some of the scheduled speakers for the discussion include Niel Curry, Head of Business Development, APAC, BBC World Services; Tapas Sen, Programming Head, Radio Mirchi; Vikas Varma, Programming Head, Radio City.
The underlying base for both the topics is content, which is a pressing concern in the radio industry today, especially with the mushrooming of FM stations. These sessions would take a close look at this issue in order to tackle this problem.
